Prayers that won’t give up!

Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them they should always pray and

never give up- Luke 18:1

At a certain point in life, we all have a limit.

For example, I have a “three call back” phone rule. If I call someone over three times and they don’t return my phone call, it’s likely I won’t call them back anymore. ( okay maybe four times, but who’s counting)

Have you ever had a friend who cancels consistently? It’s pretty hard to trust them to show up at future events.

It’s easy to transfer our human limits onto our relationship with God.

When we experience disappointments with human relationships, it’s easy to expect those same disappointments from our relationship with God.

In our limited minds, we can compare God to a friend who doesn’t call us back or show up when we make plans.

Jesus must have known this after being around his friends on earth. In Luke, he tells his disciples a parable to help them stop seeing God like a human.

In the parable of the persistent widow,  a unjust judge that finally gives into a request by a widow repetitively knocking on his door, insisting to be have her justice. He only gives in because she is pestering him but it’s not because he cares about her or about anyone but himself.

Jesus breaks the comparison trap with this verse:

And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly.

We are not just annoying people, we are God’s chosen ones….Let that sink in while hearing this –

As God’s chosen people we will receive justice and quickly!

As humans tempted to believe God doesn’t hear us, he does. He will defend our cause and bring about justice for those who love him.

We must persist in prayer and not give up! Click To Tweet

You are a chosen one of God! He hears you- He knows you-

He will send what you need even today as you trust him!

Todays prayer:

Lord, I will persist in prayer for _________________________. I will believe that you are listening and that you deeply understand my heart for this situation. Give me the grace to walk in confidence that you are at work on my behalf. You will bring justice to my cause and light to my path. You will not give the enemy of my soul the ultimate victory. You will victorious in your good and perfect plans for my life and the lives of those I love.

One prayer to find your purpose

Are you looking to rediscover a greater purpose for your life?

Purpose is often discovered on the shores of the uncomfortable.

Are you in an unexpected destination where you feel alone and uncertain of your purpose in life?

Uncharted pain does not take away your purpose in life but it can cause you to head in a new direction.

God disturbs us to help us let go of our plans and seek a fresh, deeper kingdom purpose.

And who knows?

When you lose sight of the land, you just might see the stars. #prayforpurpose Click To Tweet

As promised, this is one prayer for purpose attributed to Sir Francis Drake in 1577

Disturb us, Lord, when
We are too well pleased with ourselves,
When our dreams have come true
Because we have dreamed too little,
When we arrived safely
Because we sailed too close to the shore.

Disturb us, Lord, when
With the abundance of things we possess
We have lost our thirst
For the waters of life;
Having fallen in love with life,
We have ceased to dream of eternity
And in our efforts to build a new earth,
We have allowed our vision
Of the new Heaven to dim.

Disturb us, Lord, to dare more boldly,
To venture on wider seas
Where storms will show your mastery;
Where losing sight of land,
We shall find the stars.

We ask You to push back
The horizons of our hopes;
And to push into the future
In strength, courage, hope, and love.

When you read this prayer today, I would love to hear from you. What do you think about praying for God to disturb you ?

How do you think this will lead you to find a greater purpose in life?

When your loved one won’t be home for Christmas

Photo Sep 15, 6 25 47 PM

It just happened again!

I was crying in my car as I heard ” I’ll be home for Christmas” and the reality hit me that my mom won’t be home this year.

I won’t be opening the doors of her home and seeing the beautiful decorated tree.

I won’t be seeing that smiling face of hers or eating dinner at her house on Christmas eve.

My children won’t be opening tons of presents from Grandma and ripping open the wrapping all night.

My Mom won’t be home for Christmas and maybe you have lost a special someone too?

Here are a few things to do when your loved one won’t be home for Christmas either-

1.) Please have snow and mistletoe and presents on the tree!

It’s important to try to keep going with the special things that bring joy at Christmas. Your loved one would not want you to sit in a heap of tears and not bring out the Christmas tree or decorations because you are sad. Just the opposite! They would want you to keep having the celebrations of life and loving those who meant so much to them.

This year, in their memory, deck the halls of your home and find new ways to celebrate with new  traditions that bring you joy.

Memories are a gift your loved one would want you to unwrap each year! Click To Tweet“]

2.) Christmas Eve will find me, where the love light gleams

On the event of Christmas eve, it’s hard not to have the physical presence of the person you love at Christmas. I know this sounds silly, but light a candle in their memory and let it shine at a place of honor in your home. Grief is the pain you feel when you lose someone, but mourning is the healthy, outward expression of that loss. Jesus spoke the best grief counseling and promise to those hurting at the holiday. ” Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted!”
This year, in memory of your loved one, light a candle and

Let the love light gleam to symbolize the light of their love in your heart. Click To Tweet

3.) I’ll be home for Christmas, if only in my dreams – I would like to end with a poem about a first Christmas in heaven. Your loved one is celebrating a dream Christmas in heaven. Don’t worry about them missing out or feeling sad. What they are experiencing is far beyond your wildest dreams!

Christmas in Heaven

by Wanda Bencke

I see the countless Christmas trees around the world below
With tiny lights, like Heaven’s stars, reflecting on the snow
The sight is so spectacular, please wipe away the tear
For I am spending Christmas with Jesus Christ this year.
I hear the many Christmas songs that people hold so dear
But the sounds of music can’t compare
with the Christmas choir up here.

I have no words to tell you, the joy their voices bring,
For it is beyond description, to hear the angels sing.
I know how much you miss me, I see the pain inside your heart
But I am not so far away, we really aren’t apart.

So be happy for me, dear ones, you know I hold you dear.
And be glad I’m spending Christmas
with Jesus Christ this year.

I sent you a special gift, from my heavenly home above. I sent you a memory of my undying love. Click To Tweet“]
After all, love is a gift more precious than pure gold
It was always most important in the stories Jesus told.
Please love and keep each other, as my Father said to do
For I can’t count the blessing or love he has for each of you
So have a Merry Christmas and wipe away that tear
Remember, I am spending Christmas
with Jesus Christ this year.

Blessings to you this Christmas ! If you have a prayer need, please let me know in the comments! Thank you !

A Practice of Prayer recycles pain

Prayer recycles paina repurposed heart

What was your plan that hit the can?  Was it a lost dream, marriage or friendship? As women it is so easy for our emotions to make us feel trashed with the fear of failure and insecurity of lost relationships.  Today, will you consider opening your hands and letting go of trying to be in control of that plan?

I know it hurts but be encouraged!

God’s purpose will be accomplished in you and through you, regardless of this situation.

Admitting to painful emotions is the first step unraveling their power.

Following my mother’s death, God revealed to me that I had to get my heart in the right place –

In a figurative sense, the recycling bin of prayer is the place for my heart to seek healing changes not a trashcan. I began to view my prayer time as the place where I would sit to sort through my painful emotions with God, one by one. With tears streaming down, it was not a pretty process but it was life giving.  Most counselors will agree: You can’t heal from it, if you won’t deal with it!

Here’s my simple recycling prayer:

God I feel_( insert emotion)_________________ about (situation _________________________ because.( insert your feelings about the situation)

Help me to trust you with this!

I found the practice of confessing my painful emotions before God gave me the ability to see answers in his word.  When I admitted I felt helpless, God’s word told me God would hold me together.( Ps 57:1-3the message) When I admitted I was lonely, the words of Jesus seemed to whisper, I will never leave you or forsake you!

Is there a deep hurt that you have never admitted to God? Don’t be afraid to pray a recycling bin prayer before the one who can change your heart. I am a friend to remind you that God is not afraid of any hurt you give Him.  It is in the messy emotional state of feeling trashed that we often find the message that will change the world by faith.

A Special Valentine for those who have lost someone

I remember my first Valentine’s day after the losses in my family.

I wanted to act like everything was okay.

I didn’t have anyone to talk to about the fact that my heart hurt

I didn’t want to celebrate love when my heart was dying.

I was screaming inside,” Doesn’t anyone understand what it is like to be miserable today?

So I wrote this post for the person who is feeling trapped in a world of happy faces.

You may even feel tempted to act happy but If you don’t want to pretend …

Let’s have a conversation about your heart

untitled shoot-0088-61

Is your heart so full of mixed emotions that you don’t know exactly how to feel?

Secretly, you are longing to go back in time when that person was just a phone call away. You watch as others express love freely to one another. Maybe you  feel like you have nothing left to give? Days like this hurt- I get it! I understand and it’s okay to feel the way you do. It’s normal.

Love like this takes time to sort out.

Just for a moment, will you close your eyes and let memories flicker into view like an old movie? What do you see? I know you may want to turn away from the past because of the pain.  Don’t be afraid to look at that memory as a gift of love planted deep inside your heart.

The person you miss would  want love in your heart today and not sorrow.

They would want you to know you are loved!

What negative feeling are you holding onto today?

anger, sadness, fear, regret, bitterness, helplessness, confusion

It is okay to admit to painful feelings in your heart, it’s the first step to healing!

If you would like to share a feeling or a memory with me, I am listening to your heart today. Feelings and experiences are important to me. You can respond with a comment and I will pray for you.

No matter what, find a moment and share your heart with God in prayer.

IMG_4420_edited-1 There is one feeling God wants you to hold onto today!

His Love !

He loves your feelings, your heart, your emotions, your pain, just you!

His word is for you today, when no one else knows what to say.

Jeremiah 31:3

I have loved you with an everlasting love…

Now, in light of this present moment, will you let go of the painful emotions, and hold on to His love that promises new joy is waiting in your future. There is so much life ahead for you to experience.

Let go and live, because you are loved!

Notice there are still so many people you have to love. Your life matters. It’s important to find strength in the new plan God has for your heart. It is going to be a beautiful new purpose, just for you.

Romans 8:28 – And God works all things together for good, for those who love him and are called according to His purpose….

You will rejoice again, dear friend, as you seek God’s love

All who seek the Lord will praise him.

Their hearts will rejoice with everlasting joy.

Psalms 22:26

Leaving your negative emotions behind, you will be repurposed by His love

Re-Joyce always, knowing God will return joy to your heart in the future for a Happy Valentines Day.
